Judging by their name, you would’ve never guessed Urban Shepherd Boots handcrafts all of their boots in a small, family-owned factory in Portugal, Benedita to be exact. Using locally sourced leather from tanneries that have been producing leather for over 100 years. Generations in the making, we went hands-on with their Original Boot and put it to the test. Read our full breakdown below. Photography: Sean Martin for The Primary Mag.

First Impressions

First impressions mean everything and the Original Boot impresses right off the bat. From the scent and feel of the leather to just the overall craftsmanship, you know you’re holding something special. The silhouette itself is modeled after the working-class boot of the 50’s, but this modeled has a timeless look. It feels very modern and will surely elevate any outfit.

Comfort and Fit

Surprisingly the Original Boot doesn’t run big like most other boots and rather it a full size too small. We sized up for full comfort, but you can also choose to go up half a size for a more snug fit. The Vibram sole was the real star of the boot and allows for a comfortable wear throughout the day. An anti-shock cork footbed and stacked leather heel round out the lower portion as they magically blend form and function. Boots can often be a bit of a burden and not the most comfortable, but these did just the trick.

Closing

There’s really not much else to say about these boots except that Urban Shepherd really just got everything right. At only $260, it’s a bit of a bargain considering the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship that went into producing this boot. You’ll definitely find yourself wearing these boots for years to come with Goodyear Welt Construction allowing you to resole the boots when the time comes.
